Founder Eddie Owen likes to say, “Life is in the song,” and he has a particular talent for spotting emerging artists. After all, he helped superstars John Mayer, the Indigo Girls and Sugarland get their starts by giving them an intimate stage to hone their craft and build a following. His rapport with the grassroots music scene and credibility in the industry is unmatched.
This music destination is a strategically significant piece of the cultural puzzle that is proving to be an economic development success for the second largest and fourth oldest municipality in Gwinnett. In his quiet and humble way, Owen has created a buzz that is reaching demographics that ordinarily would not seek out entertainment in Duluth. As part of creating a place of music, the basement of the Red Clay Theatre will be utilized to build a school for master classes. The school is slated to open in January of 2013. Tapping into our vast network, we plan to bring in songwriters to act as mentors to up and coming talent.

On any given Monday night in Duluth, the next great music sensation may take the stage during Songwriter’s Open Mic. Eddie Owen Presents @ Red Clay Theatre also averages 10-25 live performances each month boasting headliners, local favorites and independent artists giving voice to a new sound.
SONGWRITER’S OPEN MIC SHOOTOUT is the gathering of winners from the past six months of Monday night open mics - the players are national and local performers who will compete in a head-to-head competition. These writers of original song were chosen over the past six months of Monday night Songwriter’s Open Mic hootenannys. A panel of music industry judges will decide who progresses to the each round based on the following criteria: songwriting, vocal performance, playing ability, stage presence, and audience response.
Guaranteed to be one of the best nights of live music you will ever see, and chance to say you knew these folks way back when…
The winner of the Shootout will receive $1,000; runner-up will receive $500.
EOP Shootouts are bi-annual events and are always scheduled for the Friday after Thanksgiving and the first Saturday in June.
